Enlisted
in the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Army 31 October 1977.
Entered Active Duty Service 11 July 1978
( That's why 11 July means a lot to me cause of dad as well ),
Went to Ft. Dix, New Jersey for BCT training, July 11, 1978-October 4,
1978, and Advanced Infantry Training as a Wheeled Vehicle Operator from
October 10, 1978- November 10, 1978. First Duty Station: Home Town
Recruiter from November 18 1978-January 6, 1978, then reported to Ft.
Carson, Colorado, 2/34 Armor Division, Refueling Support Platoon, Squad
1, as an M60, M60A1/2 tank, and APC (Armored Personnel Carrier )
refueling specialist and operated an M559 Goer Tanker.Also taught
operations of refueling and operation of vehicle and equipment and
awarded the Battalion Accomodation for Exemplary Performance. Received
promotion up to SP4/E-4, then received orders to report to Rhine Mein,
Frankfort, Germany on 14 January 1980. Received orders to report to 37
Transportation Group, 1 Transportation Company, William O'Darby Kaserne,
Nuremburg/Feurth Germany, as a Tractor Trailer driver, operating the
M995 AMC Tractor Line Haul vehicle transporting military goods
throughout Europe and Benlux Countries. Served 3 weeks tour in Berlin,
Germany supporting the US Military during the German Railroad Strike in
1980. Awarded the plaque 20,000 accident free miles in first 10 months
of assignment to 1st Transportation Company. Returned to US at Ft. Dix,
NJ for outprocessing and received Good Conduct Medal and Honorable
Discharge Orders for 10 July 1981. Received 10% Veteran's Disability
awarded to to medical complications while assigned at Ft. Carson,
Colorado. Enlisted in the US Army Reserves on 10 October 1983, and
assigned to 368th Engineers Bn, A Company,2nd Squad, heavy Equipment
Operator, and operated bulldozers, 25 ton cranes, and 5/15/25 ton Dump
Trucks. Reassigned to Unit Armorer, A Company, HQ Platoon, and sent to
Ft. Lee, Virginia for Weapons School and Quarter Master School. Awarded
the Military Occupation Skill of 92Y10, Quartermaster, in 1986.
Performed duties as Unit Armorer and range Instructor until January
13,1990, when promoted to SGT/E-5, and reassigned to HHC 368th Engineers
Battalion, S-4 until retiring November 17, 2000. traveled to the
following countries to include served while in the US Army Reserves:
Panama (1 tour), Kenya, Africa ( 1 tour ), Honduras (3 tours), Canada (2
tours). Awarded following medals: Expert Rifle, Expert Grenade, Wheeled
Vehicle Device "W" award, Good Conduct Medal, NCO School
Ribbon with the "3" attached, Various Army Achievement Medals
authorized to wear 2 silver oak leafs, US Army Accomadation Medal,
authorized to wear ribbon with 3 bronze clusters, National Defense
Ribbon, US Army Reserve Component Overseas Ribbon with 2 silver oak
leafs attached on ribbon, US Army Quartermaster Medal Insignia, US Army
Transportation Medal Insignia, Awarded two gold coins from General of
94th ARCOM ( Army Reserve Command ). |
